Introduction

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. In February 2001, The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design will present that latest products and graphics by the world's most prominent international designers and selected by a jury for awards in the Museum's annual GOOD DESIGN Show.

GOOD DESIGN is the world's oldest and most prestigious awards program that bestows international recognition to designers and manufacturers for advancing new and innovative product thinking and originality and for stretching the envelope beyond what is considered standard product and consumer design.


Over 100 products and graphic designs were selected by a distinguished jury which includes Aaron Shin (of d6ga.com), Bart Brejcha (Editor of Design-engine.com), Daniel Streng (Acclaimed Furniture Designer and occasional editor of Design-engine.com), Jill Hunt (of the Joss Design Group and past co chair of the Chicago Chapter IDSA), and Michael Seum (Senior Designer of Sterling a Division of Kohler Corporation). These recognized designers chose what recent designs were worthy of the Museum's GOOD DESIGN Award, attesting to the design energy, vitality, and current innovation in global design today.


In this year's edition of GOOD DESIGN, over 3,000 submissions were received by The Chicago Athenaeum from 43 countries attesting to the staying power of the Museum's historic GOOD DESIGN Show.

This year, GOOD DESIGN Awards were won by designers and manufacturers from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Great Britain, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States. The GOOD DESIGN Show opens at The Chicago Athenaeum's Main Museum sometime in January -date to be announced. (307 North Michigan Avenue)
