PSYCHOLOGY FACULTY
Psicologia / Psychology Faculty Campus de Teatinos, Malaga - Spain

Psicologia / Psychology Faculty
Campus de Teatinos, Malaga. Spain
International Open Competition - 2nd Prize
Client: Universidad de Malaga. Spain
Project: 2008

The Department of Psychology is part of the logic of the university campus while presenting a unique building, which is emerging as a major linchpin in the intersection of the urban plan. The organic and multidirectional foorplan defines multiple relationships between the faculty and its environment, both natural and built. The ground floor is open and fluid and invites visitors to enter the faculty from any direction, and discover the various public programs (library, cafeteria, auditorium, ...). The program is organized into modules built around a central patio, where the interstitial spaces created are circulation spaces. These are designed as bright and pleasant space expansions that provide a friendly atmosphere for exchange between students. The various modules are wrapped in an aluminium perforated skin that ensures the visual unity of the project and regulates the entry of light into the building, creating different lighting moods throughout the day.  The millenia-old traditional patio rooted in Mediterranean culture is reformulated in a contemporary way, using in particular its ability to meet the challenges of sustainable development.
