URBAN PLAZA

ARCHITECT: CHRISTIAN WIESE
OWNER: URIBE & SCHWARZKOPF
CITY: QUITO
COUNTRY: ECUADOR

The building is located in a busy intersection in the center of a major business area of Quito. The architectural parti raises the exploitation of a volumetric character yielding a monolithic sculpture, exercising a landmark character and symbol, and creating a strong sense belonging among the inhabitants of the city. The building concept includes the notion of a radial structure, circular with cantilevered perimeters. The vertical movement is marked by a constant 4 degree rotation of each ascending floor. The black glass envelope adds sobriety and an urban modern vocation. The final result evokes the beauty of one of the essential tools used in construction: the drill.
