CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (AUGUST 30, 2024) — Now in its 19th year, the International Architecture Awards®, the first and oldest global tributes of their kind, recognize the world’s best new buildings and urban planning projects and landscape architecture for 2024 that provide contemporary insight into their country’s architecture, design, culture, and social trends.

The annual program first launched in 2005 celebrates the best contemporary architecture and urban planning projects from around the world that demonstrate visionary thinking, design excellence, and social impact.

Organized jointly by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, the international awards and prizes champion and celebrate the best architecture around the world.
Since launching in 2005, the Museums have celebrated over several thousand new buildings, landscape architecture projects, and urban plans on six continents.

“Irrespective of style, complexity, and size of both scheme and budget,” states Christian Narkiewicz-Laine, architecture critic and Museum President/CEO of The Chicago Athenaeum, “each awarded project demonstrates visionary or innovative thinking and excellence of execution.”

“Each project is an example of the highest calibre of architectural response to social, cultural, and environmental challenges.
“In this year’s selected projects, key themes illustrate climate resilience and connection to nature, creative reinvention and extension to existing buildings, and spaces for community, worship, mindfulness, health, and wellness,” continues Narkiewicz-Laine.

“Each of these projects has made an exceptional contribution to the local area and demonstrates a stimulating architectural response to our institutions’ stringent social, environmental, and design values.”

This year, from a shortlist of over 700 pre-selected submissions, the 150 plus award-winning buildings and urban planning projects are spread out from Antarctica to Europe, from Myanmar to the Maldives, from Luxembourg to Saudi Arabia, from China to the United Kingdom.

In addition to the 150 plus awarded projects another 60 honorable mentions were also cited.

Winners of this year’s International Architecture Awards include over 100 of the world’s most influential and established architecture practices in Europe, Asia, Australia, and North and South America.

This year’s Awards recipients were selected by a distinguished four-person jury:
