It is a proven fact that the toilets we use in our western society are a contributing factor to various serious bowel diseases because the everyday sitting posture in a 90° angle is actually unnatural for us humans. Our bodies are evolutionarily optimized for a squatting position during defecation, as it is still very common in many Asian and African countries today.

But there is a very effective quick fix to the issue: A foot stool placed in front of the toilet that puts us into a healthier squat position. So it is no wonder that there are already several very successful ‚toilet stools‘ on the market that address this problem.

Unfortunately, these toilet stools are all made of very cheap materials and are aesthetically not very appealing. They give you the impression that the owner suffers from a serious illness and are therefore highly stigmatized. So, although many people clearly see the benefits of such stools, they would not voluntarily put one in their bathroom.

stuul® is the first attempt to reinterpret the toilet stool through an innovative, holistic and sustainable design approach. We aim at turning it into a lifestyle oriented object to fit premium bathroom interiors with the ultimate goal to increase acceptance and generate desirability for this important product category.
