Designed By Students Floating Locker Shelves

It happens every time. The very thing you need is near the bottom of the cold metal abyss that is your locker. Say hi to the Designed By Students Floating Locker Shelves.  They let you skip the stacks, save time and organize with the help of geometry. Floating Locker Shelves make the most of your locker space by forming colorful and organized triangular compartments for your shoes, lunch, books, bags and more.

BACKGOUND
When it came time to come up with innovative new school supplies, Staples went right to the source for inspiration—students. Along with design education experts, aruliden, we brought students from two middle schools into the design process to get their take on what kinds of products would help make the school day easier.  The result—school essentials invented by students for students.

We learned students wanted products that were bold and unique and needed solutions that kept them organized, protected their valuables, and helped them to be prepared and focused throughout the day. The locker space is one area where students needed a solution to help them sort, store, and find their school supplies and valuables, without being late to their next class.  Students are frequently stopping at their lockers to quickly switch out materials between classes and don’t have time to maintain and organize that storage space.  Objects are often hastily stacked, tossed, or crammed within.  The locker becomes an area of disorderly mess, with smaller items falling to the floor, projects getting crushed and school supplies damaged.

DESIGN
The Designed By Students Floating Locker Shelves help make the most of the locker space by dividing the vertical area into multiple levels of storage.  Fitting into most 12” lockers, the Floating Locker Shelves rest diagonally against the locker walls, creating 4 triangular compartments for lunch, books, shoes and more.  The design consists of 3 high density fiberboard panels covered in a durable, dual color, polyester fabric, with sturdy construction that can withstand daily wear and tear.  Quick and easy to install, the Floating Shelves are simply unfolded and placed within the locker, requiring no tools.  The design collapses flat for efficient shipping and in-store display, as well as easy storage when not in use.  The Floating Locker Shelves are a simple solution that keeps textbooks, school supplies, and valuables organized, visible, accessible, and protected.
