Designers: Kati Meyer-Brühl, brühl & sippold GmbH., Bad Steben, Germany

Manufacturer: brühl & sippold GmbH., Bad Steben, Germany

The les copains harp chairs – in the versions small, low and medium – combine a graceful, galvanised metal frame with a string body woven from fine stainless steel wire. These chairs are not only surprisingly comfortable, they are also extremely robust and durable, suitable for outdoor use – and look as light as a feather.

They are as sustainable as they are aesthetical. For additional comfort, the chairs can be complemented by cushions, backrest pads and armrest sleeves made from wool felt.

The les copains harp chairs are characterised by a particularly clear, airy, formally reduced – and hence aesthetically and materially durable and adaptable – design.

Their appeal is essentially based on the choice of materials and their shiny surfaces, which make them look ethereal and almost immaterial. At the same time, the handcrafted wickerwork provides a decorative and artisanal aspect and gives the chairs a strong aesthetic presence.

In spite of the ‘cool’ materials used, the chairs do not look ‘cool’ but rather airy and magical. In addition, metal tends to quickly take on the body temperature. Nevertheless, the optional wool felt cushions and pads with their associations of earthy warmth, intentionally serve as a kind of counterweight.

They may be used on a cool evening out of doors or in the winter. With regard to its potential forms of utilisation, the les copains harp chairs are very openly designed: The chairs fits in any kind of environment, be it one’s own kitchen or living room, a balcony or terrace, an office, a lobby or a meeting table.

The same goes for the colours: As the shiny surfaces have no colour quality in themselves, they are very adaptable and their colour cannot come out of fashion.

The three versions offered are all distinguished by their characteristic form – be it a prominent backrest or a wooden top rail – and make it easy to take account of individual aesthetic preferences. Besides, all chairs can be matched with each other.

In addition, the les copains small chair (without armrests) is stackable and thus particularly flexible.
