Design Brief: Staxx furniture uses CNC design technology and sustainable materials to create a flat-pack product that assembles without tools or hardware. The modern utilitarian style and high level of environmental awareness is designed for tomorrow while being accessible to many today.
Material and Process: Staxx flat-pack furniture is made using FSC Certified Baltic Birch Plywood with Birch or Walnut Veneers and finished by hand with a water based clear coat that emphasizes the material’s natural qualities. Each piece of furniture is designed based on the standardized size of plywood and maximizes the material yield while reducing manufacturing waste.
We chose to use plywood because it is produced in standard sizes and available globally. Theoretically we are then able to send a digital design file to a CNC router anywhere in the world and produce product locally, using the same standardized materials available, virtually eliminating trans-oceanic shipping.
The 2D interlocking panels pack flat in a recyclable corrugated cardboard box to minimize inventory space and shipping resources, all reducing our carbon footprint and impact on the environment. We have also eliminated printed assembly instructions and instead have included a QR code on the package that when scanned will lead our customer to an assembly video.
Design Philosophy: Our design philosophy is about minimalism and the idea that simpler is better. We believe true luxury is about living a comfortable life and our products reflect that. We also believe good design is only good when it is not harmful to the environment we live in. Staxx initial furniture concept was developed based on this philosophy and we remain committed to social responsibility when designing and producing in the future.
