Founded by Dr. Kathrin Hamm in 2018, Bearaby is a sustainable home wellness brand on a mission to create a calmer, more comforted world. Bearaby began with a single product: a biodegradable, plastic-free weighted blanket that disrupted a 30-year-old industry laden with artificial fillers. Today, Bearaby is home to 13 patents, 10+ products in 50+ colorways, and an ever-growing number of consumer loyalists seeking sustainable, restorative rest.
Circularity in home decor still has a long way to go. In 2018, 17 million tons of textile waste ended up in landfills (Source: EPA). Recycling has risen in popularity, but 85% of recycled textiles still crowd landfills (Source: NYDEC). Most home decor products lack ecologically responsible end-of-life solutions.
This is why Bearaby designed the world’s first fully biodegradable sensory knot pillow – the Hugget™. Made of Bearaby’s latest material innovation, Melofoam™, the Hugget™ is available in three sizes with distinct stress-relieving benefits.
Most memory foam pillows lack functional benefits and last only 2-3 years before disposal. Bearaby’s Hugget™ knot pillow is durable and sustainable, lasting up to 20 years. Once worn down, it decomposes in soil in just 6 weeks.
Melofoam™ is a fully biodegradable, breathable, responsive rubber made of sap tapped from rubber trees (which continue growing and absorbing CO2 post-harvest). Collected in coconuts, the sap is steamed into a zero-waste, all-natural foam. Each Melofoam™ Hugget is hand-knotted and encased in GOTS-certified 100% organic cotton or Lenzing-certified TENCEL.
Since launching in April 2022, the Hugget™ has frequently sold out, with the press naming it one of the most sustainable home wellness products. Hundreds of positive reviews have reaffirmed the importance of this product and its functional, anxiety-soothing design. One hug at a time, our knot pillow is inspiring the entire industry to innovate sustainably for the most important home of all: our planet.
