Honeywell Anthem is a new cockpit system for aircraft. It is designed to solve two problems facing the aviation industry. First, it creates ways for increasingly complex aircraft to function with more autonomy, relieving stress on pilots and promoting safety and efficiency.

Second, it enables the disjointed systems that support an aircraft to work together more seamlessly to deliver critical information to pilots. Honeywell Anthem aims to transform the pilot experience with predictive UI controls operated with a few swipes of the finger.

Its flexible software platform can be customized for virtually every type of aircraft, including large passenger and cargo planes, business jets, helicopters, general aviation aircraft, and the rapidly emerging class of advanced air mobility (AAM) vehicles. Honeywell is one of the world’s largest aviation suppliers, with decades of experience building jet engines, mechanical systems, and flat-screen cockpits.

Honeywell Anthem combines this expertise with design sensibilities used in everyday smart devices. Its Mission Manager feature creates a visual “timeline,” showing pilots when they will need to make radio calls, change headings or adjust engine power.

A “smart pilot assistant” uses contextual clues to speed up entries for altitude, heading, and speed, making piloting easier and eliminating errors.

Honeywell Anthem also features an embedded, secure web browser. A server on the ground accesses the internet and then beams a video feed into the cockpit.

This ensures that the cockpit system cannot be hacked, because it is never directly connected to the internet. As the world's first always-on, cloud-connected avionics, Honeywell Anthem transfers data to secure, ground-based servers before the aircraft even lands. This dramatically reduces pilots' preflight preparation time, including wasted time in the cockpit, by up to 45 minutes per flight.

Mechanics are able to update navigation databases remotely and in real-time. Honeywell Anthem can be adapted to fit any aircraft — both literally and figuratively. Flight computers that were previously the size of a suitcase have been shrunk to the size of a hardcover book.

The system is customizable, meaning we can bring this into almost anything that's currently flying or will fly in the future. It is also designed with “green” aircraft in mind and has been selected by two pioneering companies, Vertical Aerospace and Lilium, as the cockpit system for their new, zero-emission electric aircraft.
