The FoodSaver® Cordless Handheld Vacuum Sealer offers all the benefits of vacuum sealing while taking up minimal counter space. The sealer also comes with a built-in cord management system to keep counters clear and orderly.

Design Innovation
Vacuuming air out of food containers often requires a costly and substantial device. Our challenge was to create a better overall experience within a considerably smaller footprint.

With the FoodSaver Handheld Vacuum Sealer consumers can quickly vacuum containers/bags without the hassle of large appliances, complicated buttons, and long cables. Through an innovative vacuum pump motor, sophisticated aesthetics, and intuitive design, we created a small handheld vacuum sealer that is a joy for consumers to use.

Benefit to User
We elevated the intuitiveness and usability of the device by offering a single interface (button located at the top), streamlining the form, and creating a charging base with an integrated cord management system. From the shape and placement of the interface to the approachable stance of the device, consumers can quickly identify how it functions and begins to engage with it.

Benefit to Client/Brand
The goal was to create a small yet powerful handheld vacuum sealer that could take the hassle out of storing and preserving food. Simplicity of form and function where design imperatives. Its compact proportions are another advantage to consumers who desire a clean, clutter free kitchen environment. We also solved a pain point for current users by pairing the device with our lineup of resealable vacuum-sealed bags.

Benefit to Society
In 2010 estimate from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Economic Research Service, 31 percent of food in the U.S. is lost at the retail and consumer levels. This amounts to 133 billion pounds or $161 billion worth of food.

Wasted food is the single largest contributor to municipal landfills and represents nourishment that could otherwise go to people in need. This problem is further compounded by the water, energy, and labor needed to produce wasted food—resources that could have gone to better use.

Effectively reducing food waste will require cooperation among federal, state, tribal, and local governments, faith-based institutions, environmental organizations, communities, and the world’s supply chains.

The USDA, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Food and Drug Administration signed a joint agency formal agreement known as the Winning on Reducing Food Waste Initiative. The agreement is aimed at improving coordination and communication across federal agencies attempting to better educate Americans on the importance of reducing food waste.

The FoodSaver Cordless Handheld Vacuum Sealer is one way for consumers to do their part. Compact and easy to use, it’s an effective household tool for limiting food spoilage. With available resealable bags and vacuum-sealed containers, this proven vacuum sealing technology is a convenient way for families to preserve food and avoid needless waste.

Appropriate Aesthetics Design of the FoodSaver Handheld Vacuum Sealer combines innovative engineering with simple yet sophisticated form. The goal was to create a device that’s aesthetically pleasing, ergonomic, and intuitive to use—all within a small footprint.

Intuitive design is reflected in the upper silver square button that transitions into a full circle, offering the consumer a clear cue on how to use the product and engage the vacuum containers/bags.

Other important details include the small green power LED light at the top and the green gasket at the base, both of which are visually refined and easy to read.

The materials used are ABS and silicone valve elements.
