Firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce, vinegar, tea.

While firewood may no longer be required in most kitchens, the other necessities remain as relevant today as they were in the Song Dynasty. Our aim with this project was to explore these unglamorous but essential items in the kitchen, interpret them in a multicultural design context and present them as a coherent collection of modern objects for the kitchen realized exclusively in ceramic stainless steel. Nicol Boyd & Tomas Rosen

"Seven Necessities" is a unique range of items which combines a modern and contemporary design with a respect for traditional typologies. They are ‘everyday items’, which see very regular use but which are often overlooked. The intention with the ‘Seven Necessities’ was to design a range of beautiful, durable and long lasting kitchen essentials which could be used daily for many years.
