RETWEED 2019-2020

Designers: Sunbrella + Richard Frinier, Burlington, North Carolina, USA
Manufacturer: Sunbrella®, Burlington, North Carolina, USA

The RETWEED collection is a sustainable line of performance fabrics containing up to 93% recycled content. Mid-century modern and vintage tweed-inspired, RETWEED gives the textural appearance of hand-loomed textiles where no two rolls are alike. Woven in classic neutral ad richly colorful earthen hues, RETWEED incorporates the classic flecks that characteristically popularized Donegal tweeds, as well as interpretations of classic tailored fashion patterns. The proprietary recycled yarns present flecks along with natural color variations inherent to the recycling and manufacturing processes, perfectly imperfect design details that serve as artful and meaningful references to the significant importance of sustainable living practices.

DESIGNS WITHIN THE RETWEED COLLECTION:

Loom One, Loom Two, Loom Three, Loom Four, Tweed, Harrison, Highlander, Hunt, Hound

COLOR WAYS:

Castlerock, Woodland, Greystone, Dune, Raven, Glen, Midnight, Fox

The RETWEED Collection represents the next generation of fabric design introducing the brand’s first comprehensive presentation of performance textiles to use up to 93% recycled content. This creative collaboration sought to combine the best of design thinking and thoughtful design practices to realize environmentally friendly fabrics with a rich and textural hand-made appeal.

Inspired by Mid-century vintage tweed textile designs from the original English Linton and Irish Donegal tweeds to the Scottish Harris tweeds from the Outer Hebrides and sartorial Italian tweeds as seen in couture. The result is a unique and overall appearance of hand-loomed textiles, each designed in a deeply colorful array of natural and earthen hues, coalesced with a sense of social mindfulness.

By using yarns spun from recycled fiber, the RETWEED collection displays a perfect color palette ranging from a tonal mix of subtly shifting hues in beige, taupe and grey as seen across the natural landscapes where tweed textiles first originated. More earthen and traditional tweed color references were then integrated to further evolve and enhance the overall design experience.

Recycled yarns create natural variations of shades and accent flecks of color in the RETWEED collection fabrics inherent to the recycling and manufacturing processes. These novelties are not flaws, rather perfectly imperfect design details naturally resulting from the creation of original and socially conscious products that serve as artful and meaningful references to the significant importance of sustainable living practices.
