Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings is still early in their ESG journey but are quickly maturing both in ESG efforts and as a parent brand. Most stakeholders are familiar with the Norwegian Cruise Line brand, but are less familiar with the brands, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. The CEO has moved the global sustainability program to the center of the parent company’s strategy. Building on the branded program “Sail & Sustain” the report communicates the company’s progress.

In 2023, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings advanced their ESG priorities, introducing more goals, targets and data, and the report reflects the company’s maturity, commitment and brand. The company’s “Sail & Sustain” program is centered around five key pillars: reducing environmental impact, sailing safely, strengthening our communities, empowering people, and operating with integrity and accountability. The report follows this program’s structure and includes the materiality assessment, showcases Norwegian’s commitment to the UN SDGs, and integrates the requirements of SASB as well as the TCFD recommendations and climate-related disclosures. In addition, the report leans heavily on infographics to explain key concepts.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has received recognitions for its advancements through the “Sail & Sustain” program, earning accolades such as the ESG Leader Gold Award at the 2024 ESG Shipping Awards, as well as being listed in Forbes’s Best Employer Lists in 2023 and 2024.

The report has received validation as a comprehensive resource and a well-created, well-designed communication. The report won #10 in the Top 100 Reports Worldwide, and Most Improved Report-Platinum in this year’s LACP Vision Awards and recognition in GraphicDesignUSA for the Sustainability Infographics. This recognition validated the design-driven approach lead by our partner Ideas On Purpose.

Focused on the investor audience, highlights and the sustainability goals are aggregated up front for ease of accessibility. The report is organized around the company’s priority issues and highlights progress across the business as the company seeks to recognize that guests’ experiences are inextricably linked to the protection of our planet, its communities and our shared resources. Norwegian continues to introduce improvements to their environmental performance including advanced waste treatment systems, implementing recycling programs, and adopting shore power capabilities to minimize emissions while docked
