La nuova Maniglia ZEIT, disegnata da Marco Piva per Mandelli, si inserisce nell’ampia ricerca sulle forme e sui materiali che Marco Piva pone da sempre al centro del suo lavoro: una ricerca su nuovi effetti tattili e visivi da conferire agli oggetti di uso quotidiano.

ZEIT, “tempo” in lingua tedesca, allude allo scorrere del tempo, al “passaggio “ che la maniglia rappresenta: l’archetipo della simmetria di una lancetta d’orologio che, ruotando attorno ad un centro, resta fisicamente invariata al mutare della sua direzione, ma apparentemente mutata dall’incidenza della luce.

12 i mesi dell’anno, 12 i settori nel quadrante dell’orologio…12 le sfaccettature create simmetricamente sul corpo  di ZEIT.

La ricerca sul volume mira a conferire una nuova “ sostanziale “ importanza a questo strumento, necessario ad attivare con un semplice gesto l’apertura di porte e finestre, mentre al contempo, un importante studio è stato effettuato per garantire l’ergonomia e  il massimo confort all’utilizzatore.

Ritorno all’artigianalità: ZEIT, che nasce da una forma scolpita, è prodotta attraverso un processo altamente industrializzato di fusione dell’ottone, viene in seguito rifinita sapientemente a mano da artigiani esperti in modo da esaltarne l’aspetto volumetrico ed il gioco di luci ed ombre, rendendola  ogni volta unica ed irripetibile.

The new ZEIT lever, designed by Marco Piva for Mandelli 1953, is consistent with the vast research on shapes and materials carried out by the designer as main focus of his activity: a research on new tactile and visual effects to confer upon items of daily use.

ZEIT stays for “time” in German, a word referring to the flow of time, to the “passage” that a lever represents. An archetypal, symmetric hand of a watch, that, fixed on a central pivot, stays the same though changing its direction and that apparently develops other features as the light impacts on its surface.

12 months of the year, 12 sectors on a watch… 12 symmetrical facets on ZEIT. 

On one hand, the research on the shape aims at giving a new substantial importance to this item, made to enable the opening of doors and windows with a simple act; on the other, a thorough study has been carried out to guarantee the right ergonomics and comfort to the end-user.

Back to craftsmanship: ZEIT, born out of a sculpted shape, is manufactured through a highly industrialized brass-casting process and is subsequently skillfully hand-finished by expert craftsmen, to enhance its well-proportioned aspect and its geometric pattern made of light and shadows. A unique and unrepeatable item. 

ZEIT is finished in polished chrome, satin chrome, polished brass and satin brass.
