Design Display is a series of exhibitions on the extended concept of design, developed for Autostadt Wolfsburg. Each exhibition is formed as an exchange between two projects that discuss a specific topic from different approaches, ranging from remarkable product and industrial design to experimental, interdisciplinary forms of contemporary practice. At the same time, the series demonstrates the role of design in our everyday lives and its social dimension. The exhibition is conceived as dialogical process, with both projects presented in a prismatic, 20m-long and 2.4mhigh display case over a 4-month period. Also included in the space are an information column, a wall text, a bench and an archive of the accompanying magazine, On Display. Along with information provided by designondisplay.de, each issue of the magazine expands the discursive principle of Design Display, providing information on the exhibited projects and their respective designers, as well as offering essays on the context and background of the showcased design approaches. Visualising the complex contents of each exhibition are specially commissioned photos, illustrations, and infographics.
