For Millennia, villages have been following the same formula. The design proposal starts by challenging the conventional approach towards urbanism reconsidering a conventional horizontal village with streets. The change would be to eliminate the streets and introduce a new paradigm of a new village typology by elevating and designing a low-density vertical village that preserves the nature below it and extends the ski slopes up and over the building. Rather than having a split asset program next to each other, the project merges the functions to create a mixed-use program connected village environment which is elevated to free the ground floor and create a new relationship between the built environment and landscape.
The building is punctured with openings providing an improved microclimate with a shaded public realm.

Trojena Ski Village is an integrated futuristic resort destination located at NEOM, offering a premium ski experience at an elevation of 2,300 meters. It comprises an urban-mixed-use animated center with hotels, commercial, entertainment, and sports facilities, surrounded by residential accommodation. The design is inspired by the region's natural beauty, blending seamlessly with the environment, and incorporating sustainability features. The ski resort includes two hotel assets operated by Ennismore Group, apartments, retail, and F&B facilities, as well as a state-of-the-art ski lift system, ski school, and a variety of winter sports activities. It is equipped with pioneering technology-enabled adventure offerings.

This iconic asset, Trojena Ski Village, showcases breathtaking landscape views and offers various fun activities at the highest standards of hospitality. Located 2.5 kilometers above sea level, it provides a panoramic view of the Gulf of Aqaba and The Lake. The village features innovative Bio-Tech Materiality, Design and Engineering Solutions and is divided into five major zones connected through the roof and ground floor. The sloping roof is activated with sports and rooftop cafés, seamlessly embedded into the landscape. NEOM Mountain Masterplan aims to establish a world-renowned tourist destination with unbounded experiences, focusing on Discovery, Adventure, and Sports.

Through the introduction of futuristic technologies and sustainable initiatives, NEOM Mountain Region is set to become a 21st-century city-making leader, transcending the idea of a world-class destination with its urban fluidity and new urbanism paradigm. Trojena Ski Village's development in NEOM will not only showcase breathtaking landscapes and innovative design but also boost Saudi Arabia's tourism industry. This project is set to attract global visitors, offering premium ski experiences, and contributing to NEOM's reputation as a world-renowned destination. In addition to creating job opportunities and promoting economic growth, it will foster cultural exchange in the region. Situated at the mountain’s highest point, the village is a focal point for Trojena Ski Village. It is well connected via pods and lifts with access roads to the North and from the Vault. The central plaza is at the heart of the project and acts as a hub for the village activities, connecting to the ski slopes.

The Ski Village sits at the peak of the mountain and is designed in close harmony with the slope. The building integrated with and emerged from the landscape. Trojena Ski Village has been described as a place where technology meets nature and the Ski Village aims to introduce a layer of technological innovations to complement the mountain and augment the ski experience.
