OneBlade 2015

OneBlade is the result of more than a year of design and invention, and it is the best shaving experience a man can have. From the moment the package is opened, the product conveys luxury. It feels solid and balanced in the hand. The razor and its stand are solid stainless steel. The head geometry is an open framework, designed to be easy to rinse and maintain. OneBlade uses a single-edged Japanese blade, made by the finest shaving blade maker in the world. The loading and unloading of this blade was a carefully considered user experience: the blade is slipped into an opening in the rear of the razor head and snaps into place with an audible click. The open handle design allows for a substantial handle volume while still maintaining a proper weight and balance. In addition, the OneBlade razor has a unique suspension and head geometry that provides safety and comfort to complement an incredibly sharp and pure blade edge.

For the first six months of development we studied blades and the core geometries that define the science of shaving. The designers and engineers on the team shaved exclusively at the office, loading 3D printed and machined prototypes with various blades. We tested hundreds of variations of blade angle, blade gap, head size, blade exposure, pivot, grip, and weight balance. We discovered the three basic components which influence shaving performance: angle of the attack of the blade, the exposure of the blade (how much presses against your face), and the gap (the chasm between the blade and body of the razor, which is meant to catch your skin to be shaved). One of the most important variables in shaving is the space between the leading edge of the razor and the guard protecting it-what we refer to as the blade gap. Too much space meant that cutting yourself was inevitable. Too little space meant that it was nearly impossible to cut anything. Through a painstaking and iterative prototyping process, we zeroed in on the exact shaving geometry for our razor.

OneBlade is made of solid, metal injection molded German stainless steel. This manufacturing process has never before been used in this type of product and has allowed us to create a razor and stand with a uniquely beautiful and intricate balance of form and function. OneBlade is a luxurious and elegant shaving experience unlike anything that has preceded it.

OneBlade is a single blade design building on the tradition of many of the “safety” razors which have been around for decades. The performance of using a single, razor sharp edge against the skin is unmatched in the quality of shave it provides. But safety razors are “safe” in name only. The razor incorporates a precision pivoting head and a reference surface surrounding its blade. The result is a never before seen combination of shaving performance AND forgiveness.

The razor combines the tradition and performance of a single blade shave with modern comfort and forgiveness. It is a luxurious and elegant, high-performance shaving experience unlike anything that has preceded it.
