The inaugural product for the Philips Male Skincare range, the ActivEyes is the perfect addition to the Asian male grooming ritual.
Aimed at Asian men aged 18-40, the ActivEyes is an innovative, all-in-one eye care tool that combats eye fatigue, dark circles and puffiness. Despite its multiple technologies, the ActivEyes is small and slim. USB charging makes for true portability, contributing to the ActivEyes ease at slotting into daily skincare rituals at relevant times of day. The familiar, spoon-like shape can either cover the entire eye or apply spot treatment on the lid only. Elsewhere, soft dots on the silicon and aluminum surfaces sensitively reflect the pressure point massage technique beloved by Asian culture.
The design brief:
Create a tool that fulfills the need for energized eyes through a design that looks familiar, inviting, and gentle yet also technologically advanced and innovative. Men should want to use it on the delicate skin of the eyes and trust its efficacy.
The design challenge:
Convince in technology: It needs to show it has advanced technology as until now many men have not been satisfied with a tool that could deliver results.
Look familiar and inviting: As the skin near the eye area is very delicate and sensitive the product should consider gentle usage and men should look forward using it.
Be versatile in use: There are 3 different eye issues that can occur within the same consumer – depending on the day/season etc- and the device should be able to take care of all these different use cases.
