Graphic Collection 2017

Designers: Emanuela Frattini Magnusson, EFM, EFM Design, Irvine, California, USA
Manufacturer: Momentum Group, Irvine, California, USA

The Graphic Collection by Emanuela Frattini Magnusson is a collection of feature patterns engineered for today’s variety of communal areas and alternative workspaces. These settings draw people together and inspire creative thinking. Emanuela’s textiles enhance this experience with graphics, textures and color combinations designed to connect with people emotionally at every moment in their journey.

In her work as Global Director of Design for Bloomberg, Magnusson frequently builds environments for entire office buildings down to the last detail. She often seeks – but could not find – textile collections that incorporate multiple related patterns strong enough to craft a narrative and relate to one another across large spaces or even different floors of a corporate office. The Graphic Collection is her solution to this problem. Each pattern in the group is unique and there are no simple plain items to provide a lazy solution to the issue at hand. Instead, all six patterns are bold statement pieces. To achieve cohesion, they all stem from one core design concept, resulting in a unified attitude throughout the space. The core concept is textile archetypes subtly mutated to deviate from traditional staples. The resulting attitude is the visual equivalent of dry humor – patterns that are classic and contemporary at a glance, but reveal Emanuela’s creative disruptions upon closer consideration. Spaces that incorporate these textiles will be cohesively bold, geometric and colorful.

The Graphic Collection functions as a toolkit for designers to craft bold, contemporary spaces. All of the patterns are multi-color, allowing easy coordination with each other and with other finishes in the environment. The textiles incorporate a variety of textures and unique yarns to deliberately enhance differences in sensory perception which has been proven to help foster innovation and creativity.

Durability is a guarantee with all Momentum textiles. This collection exceeds ACT standards for heavy-duty upholstery in every aspect. We offer a 5 year warranty for all patterns in this collection.

For durability specifically, the patterns in this group range from 50,000 double-rubs for the novelty wool pattern CYBER PLAID to 500,000 double rubs for the coated fabric SILICA BRACKET.

Two of the patterns SILICA BRACKET and INTERLOCK are both bleach cleanable with absolute color integrity.

We work closely with the mills that produce our fabric to select yarns and weave structures that will withstand every challenge they will face over many years of use, all while maintaining their beauty and functionality.

PARENTESI references a classic check motif, but with a nod to typography. Instead of bars these checks are made of brackets! The structure combines chunky wool with smooth, flatwoven cotton for heightened tactile sensation.

  • SILICA BRACKET miniaturizes the motif used in Parentesi, providing endless possibilities of coordination. The 100% Silicone coated fabric is softer and more environmentally friendly than any vinyl or polyurethane.

  • INTERLOCK is a study of the houndstooth. Emanuela’s version creates an entirely new interlocking shape, incorporating curves and crisp angles. This multicolor houndstooth is woven with bleach-cleanable recycled polyester.

  • CUTOUT explores the polka dot, but instead of adding the dots on top of the fabric, Emanuela imagined cutting dots out of a fabric to reveal a colorful check layered beneath. Every sku is packed with color including neon brights and metallics.

  • 3DGRID functions as a rhythmic plaid, but with a twist – the width and placement of the multicolor grid work creates the perspective of a three-dimensional drawing. The extra-large scale addresses a need for large-scale designs to upholster privacy booths and communal work spaces.
