The project corresponds to an urban development strategy promoting continuity with existing buildings. Two buildings contain the programme: one 4-storey building overlooking the road houses seventeen living units while the other building, located at the back of the plot, houses eight more. The first building opens on to Rue Nicolo through an off-ground frontage providing a passageway to the building’s core and access to upper floors. Through this porch, the line of sight is directed towards the central garden. The garden extends the adjacent green spaces to create a green lung at the core of the block. The project is organised around this exterior circulation, which serves the entire programme in a direct and visible way, echoing Parisian passageways. It brings built volumes, central garden and inner courtyards together in a regular, well balanced rhythm. The housing units are dual aspect, with living rooms on the main façade to provide a view and exposure to sunlight. Each unit opens on to a garden with a special theme: golden foliage, shade foliage, white garden, etc. The ground floor and facades around the courtyard have a mineral finish featuring plaster of Paris or white concrete rendering. The main frontage is clad in brushed steel arranged in a regular pattern. On Rue Nicolo, the consistent superposition of windows and extruded elements gives an impression of verticality and airiness. On the central garden, the split levels are suggestive of a shifting of storeys and echo the garden’s landscaping.
