Gignac la Nerthe, Marseille, France

The city of Gignac-la-Nerthe is located in the vicinity of Marseilles and has consequently been adjusting to the waves of immigration since the 1960s. Nowadays, the city is mainly composed of suburban housing.

The city square evolution had to offer urban and social changes by unifying the square's diverse buildings.

Demolitions were necessary to bring consistency; the barn was renovated to keep history, and a new building was created in continuity to the city hall. This 70 m long new mineral construction is adjoined by a Mediterranean botanical garden.

On the other side, a provencal garden with trees and a water canal surrounds the pavilion along with multiple municipal activities: a playground, an open theater, a fountain, restrooms, a courtyard, a pick-nick area. The choice of colored ceramics was made to keep the Provence heritage alive.

The entire urban project offers a diversity of space and hosts gatherings and activities.
