The Glass Lab in Portland's Innovation Quadrant was transformed from a former glass factory housed in a vintage two-story industrial building into a community-oriented creative hub for the next generation of creators and innovators.
Original building elements of the 46,000 sqft space were restored and revealed, preserving the building's historical character within an open, flexible work environment.
The combination of exposed concrete, tongue and groove wood floors, and old-growth timber beams maintains a raw, authentic feel throughout the building while extensive window lines, soaring ceilings, and large skylights keep the space naturally bright. Two overhead cranes are retained in a loading dock area and in one of the larger office suites to pay tribute to the history of the building. The Glass Lab reinvigorates the neighborhood's industrious past for the makers of the future.
